ACBA's 2nd Annual Youth River Sports Day

On Saturday August 23rd, ACBA hosts the 2nd running of the event called Youth River Sports Day right at the boathouse. The event was wildly successful last year with over 150 people attending the event. A fun time was had by all - folks of all ages learned to row and paddle. The beautifully decorated dragon boats were the biggest hit. DC Dragons member Tina Chen says, "we really enjoy seeing the kids get into the dragon boats. They're eyes get so big when they see them and they just have so much fun."

"We can't wait to do this again," says ACBA President Jennifer Ney. "We'll have all the same things as last year and we really are looking forward to seeing folks come out." At the event, people can:

Learn to paddle in outrigger canoes and dragon boats
Learn to row in big training barges
Take an easy-goin' tour of the Anacostia River

The event highlights the collective strength of the ACBA's community with its 10 member organizations. Each organization contributes volunteers and resources for the event. "At the same time we are reaching out to our city's youth, we are also showing the community what we can do for them," says Event Director Dan Early.

Special note - ACBA requests that people sign up this year on-line. While it's not required, it will help them ensure enough volunteers and equipment are on hand.
