17th and 19th St two way traffic meeting

From the newhilleast listserv:

Hello everyone,

Just a reminder the DDOT is holding two public charette meetings tonight and tomorrow night on the 17th & 19th Streets Safety Improvement Project. Tonight's (Mon., July 30) meeting will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm in the Eastern High School cafeteria (1700 East Capitol Street NE). Tomorrow's (Tues., July 31) meeting will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Pilgrim AME Church (612 17th Street NE). Both of these meetings are identical, so if you are interested/concerned about safety on these two corridors, make sure you attend one of the two meetings. DDOT will be getting community feedback on various safety improvement options.

This has been an ongoing discussion on whether changing 17th and 19th street from one way to to way traffic will decrease speeding (thus increase safety). Many, many years ago, both streets were bi-directional.

I would love to go, but when I went to the last meeting, I was mocked for living across Benning Road in Ward 5.

Will these meetings lead to public mockery as well? If so, I don't think they're worth attending.

I'm not certain if public mockery is on the agenda. But if it finds it's way on there, remind them that ward boundaries can change every ten years.
