Fatal Shooting

Unfortunately this holiday weekend has been marred with violence, with shootings taking place all over DC including this neighborhood as well. The RCA tries to celebrate the good and the progress made in the community however at times horrible things happens and those events can't be ignored. Since a member of the community died it seems right to acknowledge that death especially since it is being talked about. For a little more information on the victim go here and for some more information on the murder click here. The assailant is still at large.

Hate to hear this. Still look forward to moving into the neighborhood next month. JW

For what it's worth, this murder actually happened just north of Benning Road in Carver/Langston, not Rosedale or Kingman Park. Here's a link to an eyewitness account from a commenter on Frozen Tropics:

If this is legit, I think the confusion stems from Google Maps dropping it's pinpoint south of Benning when someone queries '700 block of 19th Street'.

I wasnt sure. When i saw that it on the nightly news they were unspecific. I did see detectives the next day at that corner store on the north side of benning, so that makes sense.

Welcome to the neighborhood anon!

This is Anonymous from the first post. What are the boundaries for Rosedale?

@ Anonymous: That's an interesting question. Neither Google nor Wikipedia distinguish it from Kingman Park. See:

https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=kingman+park

-and-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingman_Park,_Washington,_D.C.

Of course, the reality is that Rosedale IS a distinct Neighborhood. If I had to place boundaries I would say 15th to 19th Streets NE (west to east) and Benning Rd to C St NE (north to south).

Not sure if that's what other people think. In any case, if boundaries were agreed upon, someone creating a Wikipedia Page would be really worthwhile.

Thank you so much for responding to my question on the boundaries for Rosedale.

I should be moving into a new home on Kramer St. by the end of the month and I look forward to getting involved and participating in neighborhood activities and meetings.

One last question from me in regards to Kramer St. On the block of Kramer St. between 16th and 17th St. there is a large green space owned by the District that is currently vacant. Have there been any discussions with between the neighborhood and the City in regards to developing this green space into a small park, etc.? I just haven't seen any information on this land and I was hoping to find out more about this block.

Thanks

Not sure anon. I think I heard someone bring it up casually about what it would take to develop that plot but as far as I know, no real plan of action was ever taken. Maybe someone in Tommy Wells' office would know. It seems though that the city sits on a lot of these smaller plots. There is one off of 17th NE between D and E (I think) as well.

@Anonymous: I've wondered about that plot myself. It's big, and it would make an excellent community resource just as an open space. It'd be great to get a community garden going on at least part of it. The Kingman Park Community Garden is great, but it's a bit too far to walk to regularly for folks living closer to 15th.
