The old Cafe Roma has been transformed into a bakery with take out service. The space is much smaller than Cafe Roma and the bakery specializes in gourmet cupcakes. On display this opening weekend was a variety from Key Lime to Red Velvet to Sweet Potato. And a free tirimisu cupcake with your order! Feel free to post your reviews.

I went on Sunday and thought it was great. I wish they would offer coffee, but I understand if the bulk of the business is focused on baking for other businesses. Also FYI, a day care is supposed to be opening on the corner next to them. I think the new fence is going to be a part of that.
E, I was wondering what the new privacy fence was for. A daycare center makes sense.
I hope they offer baguettes or bagels. I can't see buying cupcakes often, but I'd buy other bread items weekly.
I speculate that setting up and operating this bakery must have been the "activity" going on at the premises which caused some at a KPCA meeting this spring to champion code enforcement against the previous cafe operators and landlord.
Personally speaking, I'll take mine with coconut shavings on top if offered.
Anon, they were definitely operating as a bakery after Cafe Roma closed no doubt but without the retail on site. Maybe selling cupcakes on site was a part of the original permit and they are now in full compliance without having to take on the full day to day responsibilites of operating a cafe. I think the local community would still like a "third space" a place in the local community to chill and meet up with others that doesn't require spending a good amount of money to enjoy. Or even a bakery it looks like with bagels. :-)

One way to leverage that "third place" effect is to make this a place where community and civic meetings are held, even if only occasionally. In my experience, cafes can be a decent place to gather for small meetings with neighbors around civic issues, since you occasionally make new connections with others in the neighborhood who happen to be visiting there at the same time.
