The Washington Business Journal has exciting news that CM Tommy Wells has successfully persuaded Mayor Fenty to direct DDOT to have the H Street/Benning Road streetcar line (from Oklahoma Ave to 3rd St) up and running first, instead of the Anacostia line originally planned to be the first second generation DC streetcar line.
This is huge news for the Benning Road and H Street business corridors and all the surrounding neighborhoods who have consistently asked for this service. If the DC streetcar system can succeed, this corridor is place to make it happen! Now on to powering the cars, finding a location for a maintenance shed and yard and connecting the line to Union Station.
