Proposal to Rename Rosedale Field

A proposal is under consideration to rename Rosedale Field, associated with the Rosedale Recreation Center (17th & Gales Streets, NE) in honor of Mamie “Peanut” Johnson, one of only three women to play professional baseball in the Negro League. Ms. Johnson was “discovered” while playing at the field and continues to live in the immediate neighborhood.



Public comment on the issue will be solicited at the August 3 meeting of the ANC 6A Community Outreach Committee. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at 1235 C St. NE. You can also send comments to RCA, rosedaledc@gmail.com, and we will forward them to the committee prior to the meeting.
